Before Filing a Claim for Home Insurance

Before you call your home insurance provider and file for a claim, here are the things that you have to know or do first:
  1. Compile all your insurance information.
You should first know who your insurance company is and your policy number. Gather all pertinent data, such as their email address and telephone number. You would need to contact them sooner or later, so you need all these things ready, first and foremost. If you have a home insurance previous claim, you might get a record of that too.

If you have the list ready, the process would take several notches faster. The home insurance adjuster would then just have to check your list and calculate the value of your destroyed properties. Then they could proceed with the rest of the claims process.
  4. File for a Proof of Loss.
A Proof of Loss has to be failed with the right department, like the National Flood Insurance Program if you are hit with a flood. Most insurance companies facilitate the filing of Proof of Loss as well. Check that out with your provider. Also, make sure that you file it within 60 days from the day the damage incurred. If you also availed of a home owner's insurance medical claim, and you are qualified, you might as well file too.
