Florida Raises Home Insurance

In Florida the state regulators ruled that two Allstate property insurance companies can raise their rates a total of 8.2 percent, a move that will affect about four hundred thousand homeowners. The Allstate Floridian Insurance asked for a 22.5 percent increase and the Allstate Floridian Indemnity asked for a 33.2 percent increase. However when these numbers weren't justified they revised their request to eight percent. The last statewide increase was 16.3 percent and 24.4 percent for the two companies in October 2005.

In addition to Allstate, homeowners who are insured under USAA will have an increase in their premiums by February. Throughout Florida USAA home insurance will go up by 16.3 percent and they are the fifth largest home insurance company in Florida. However, the company initially requested a 40 percent increase in premiums.

In Florida about two hundred thousand homes are insured by USAA and many of these are military service members and their family members. No matter how much the increase has been dropped it will still effect those who have USAA home insurance policies.

Many home insurance companies throughout Florida have asked for increased premiums. However, many of these companies are being rejected their initial numbers since they are unreasonably high. Such as a requested 71.5 percent increase in premiums from Nationwide Insurance Co.
